When to go

The hike through the coast of Anaga is possible to be done all year round but during the autumn and winter can be closed or can be very dangerous due to rain and strong winds and is not recommended. Being closed means that if something happens to you while hiking in that closed area, is your own responsibility.

Visiting Taganana Beach from Afur

The hike to Taganana begins in the Village of Afur located in the Natural Park of Anaga, in Tenerife. Afur is surrounded by deep canyons and all of them join in Barranco de Afur. Hiking through the coast brings the chance to discover the characteristic relief of the north of Tenerife.

Afur – Tamadite Beach

From the parking of Afur is possible to see a signal path that marks the path PR-TF 8 to Tamadite and after a few meters going down the road, to the right the path begins going up and down until it reaches a river where there is a signal that reminds about the danger to cross it in case that is raining, is about to rain or if the water is dirty due to the power of it. In all these cases is better not to keep following the route because you can get trapped between Tamadite beach and this natural bridge. After crossing the river the path keeps going up and down near the riverbed.

Before arriving at Tamadite beach there is a small pool called Charco de la Pasada and there is another very close to the beach.
Tamadite beach is stunning due to the location and depending on the time of the year there is more or less sand on the beach. It is possible to have a bath but keep in mind to do it near the shore because the ocean currents are very strong along the Anaga coast.

Tamadite beach – Taganana

From the second pool the trail PR-TF 8 goes up the hill and leads to Taganana. The landscape of the north coast of Anaga is increíble all day but especially during the morning. The scenery with the Roque de la Alma, other Roques that rise from the water, palm trees and the wild environment makes this part of the trail unreal. This part of the coast is one of the most beautiful spots of the island. It passes above the cliffs and gives a spectacular view of Taganana and the incredibly steep mountains typical of this region. The village of Taganana is very beautiful and it has a small market where there can be found the basic products and a very old public fountain.

Recommendations

-Be careful with the weather conditions because it can change quickly and in an unexpected way, especially during winter. In case of bad weather conditions like winds up to 50km/h, fog, rain or other inclement weather do not hike around the area. It is very dangerous and floods may occur.

-In case of setting up a tent to avoid the camping areas and nearby without permission and notice that is illegal to set up a tent in Spain. If it is wanted to take the risk, set up the tent in a remote place at sunset and wake up early to avoid forest rangers. During summertime, there are more controls.

-Your safety is our concern but it is your responsibility. Hiking in high mountain areas requires a minimum of preparation and wearing warm clothes and proper boots always with us.
