Possibility to go all year but during winter can be very cold and windy. During the summer 2019 Tamadaba Natural Park has suffered a fire and affected probably the starting point of this hike.

Hiking in Tamadaba natural park

Roque Faneque is impressive from wherever you look to it. From the ocean rises a big and thin wall of more than 1000m with 3 different parts of the ridge. It can be easily seen for the different windows that separate the different plateaus and as the hiking path is progressing through the ridge it gets more and more complicated and exposed. The path can be started in the circular road of Tamadaba or from the camping area taking the first path to the right as walking out from the camping area.

Note: During the summer 2019 Tamadaba Natural Park has suffered a fire and affected probably the starting point of this hike.

First Roque

The path starts going down on the west direction and the path is covered with shadows by the Canarian pine tree forest and starts being comfortable and wide until it arrives at the first Roque where is located the first viewpoint of the hike. Form this viewpoint is possible to see the village of Agaete, the camping area of Tamadaba and you can realize where is located, in the top of volcanic walls, being a nice place for looking how the sun goes down with Teide in the background.

Second Roque

Turning back through the same path is possible to keep going in NW direction to the second Roque but this path is narrow and with some parts that can be a little bit exposed. The path starts going a bit down for going after up passing several times from south face to north face.  The dry pine leaves can make the path slippery and it’s recommended to be really careful in narrow places.

From the second Roque, there is a really nice view of the steep canyons that descend quickly to the ocean and there is a 360º view, especially great when looking to Agaete and all the west coast.

Third Roque

The way to the third Roque is not shown at any map because is really exposed and for getting to it it is required to use climbing gear for doing it safely.

-Recommendations:

-Avoid all kind of canyons and steep terrains in case of rain. Though the canyon can be dry it can turn into a strong river with waterfalls in seconds.

-The temperature at night above 1000m can be cold, especially during wintertime. At the summits area can go below 5ºC degrees.

-Do not drink from streams or springs, except those that are marked as drinking water.

-In case of setting up a tent to avoid the camping areas and nearby without permission and notice that is illegal to set up a tent in Spain. If it is wanted to take the risk, set up the tent in a remote place at sunset and wake up early to avoid forest rangers. During summertime there are more controls.
